Stand out

In 2022 I experienced a major depression and burnout.

After treating 20+ clients per week in my office for almost 12 years I was tired. I had professional success at the highest levels, working with professional sports teams, teaching at hospitals and universities, having a large waiting list, accomplished wonderful volunteer work…and yet…I had no work life balance.

When my depression and burnout hit me I cut down to 3 sessions a week (if any at all) and took a full-time job as a general manager for a restaurant in the town where I live. I was done. Ready to move on from manual therapy. Not because I no longer wanted to help people, but because I was tired of being a one person business. Just me in a room with a client, 5, 6, 7 and sometimes 8 hours a day.

No immediate group or community to help discuss difficult cases, client conditions that were or were not improving,  new techniques or modalities to talk about excitedly.

When I attended the AMTA National Convention and the Canadian Massage Conference I found like souls to bring me back to my foundation and inspiration. I found therapists that wanted to understand more and explore more. I found researchers that wanted to geek out over the details of massage research. I found community that understood what it was to be in a room all day with clients. I found friends that knew the unique burdens massage therapists feel when trapped between helping others and conflicting scope of practice. Mostly I found family. Family that encouraged me to explore and reinforce my own boundaries.

‘Manual therapy can often be overwhelming and lonely.’

I started this mentoring program because it is what I wanted when I was feeling burnt out and had few people to turn to. Those that helped me come back to the profession are the shoulders that have supported me and I would now like to offer my shoulders to you. Taking the time to have personalized, focused one-on-one assistance can help you feel supported and guided in your practice.

Mentoring is a relationship between two people with the goal of professional and personal development. My goal is to support and encourage you through knowledge and experience with the intent to help you improve you skills, advance your careers and maintain a work life balance.
